Waria, Khunsa, Mukhannathun, Mak Nyahs, Hijra (Aravani): there are many gender variant communities that intersect with Islam in its widely varied cultural adaptations.  Common to all of them is a felt oppression because of rigidly enforced gender binarism in colonial patterns much like Christianity's.  Here is where scholars doing the work of queering Islam will have their work posted, insh'Allah!
